Getting Around Boston Tremont Street

A visit to Boston will inevitably lead you to Tremont Street. This busy street starts at the heart of downtown Boston near Government Center and extends for several miles to Brigham Circle. There are multiple attractions, landmarks, and other important buildings located along this historic street. There is also no shortage of shops or restaurants in the area. Bostonians and tourists have great access to public transportation on this street.

Whether you are exploring the history of King's Chapel or enjoying a show at Citi Performing Arts Center, there are easy ways to arrive at Tremont Street. After arriving, visitors will enjoy walking along this lively pedestrian friendly street. The MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) provides excellent bus and subway service along Tremont Street. Make sure you pay attention to the street signs that will lead you to the right train of bus.

Tremont Street has three underground subway stations; Government Center, Park Street, and Boylston. All four MBTA subway lines run through the street including Red, Green, Blue, and Orange. The Silver Line is actually an express bus service to Logan Airport. No matter which part of Boston you are coming from, you can easily end up at Tremont. Government Center is served by the Blue and Green Lines. Park Street has subway trains along Red, Green, and Orange Lines as well as Silver Line buses. Boylston has service from the Green Line and Silver Line.

There are multiple buses that stop along Tremont Street and offer connections near the MBTA subway stations. For example, bus route 43 runs between Ruggles Station and Park Station, making over a dozen stops along the Tremont Street. Bus 55 runs along Boylston Street and then makes a final stop near Park Street Station on Tremont Street.

If you can't find a bus that stop directly along Tremont Street, you can be sure to hop on a bus that stops in nearby streets. Visitors should also be aware that there are other subway stations and bus stops only a block away on Washington Street. For example, Washington Street is served by bus routes such as 9,11, 92, 93, 504, 505, and others.
